Former royal chef on cooking for Princes William and Harry: “They loved a piping bag full of meringue”

Carolyn Robb was the top chef at Kensington Palace, cooking up some eye-pleasing creations for the royal relatives — such as Princes William and Harry when they ended up boys. 

She’s sharing some of her finest recipes in her new e-book, “Tea at the Palace: A Cookbook: 50 Delightful Afternoon Tea Recipes.” This is her second reserve, with a 3rd slated to be launched all-around the vacations. 

The South African chef got her start early: She was just 21 years aged right after she impressed Prince Charles and the late Diana, Princess of Wales for the duration of a supper service. She grew to become the first woman chef for the royal few.

“I was so encouraged I just threw myself into the task,” Robb instructed CBS News’ Roxana Saberi 

As part of her schooling, Robb said that she obtained a crash training course in royal protocol. 

“The 1st time you see a member of the royal spouse and children every single working day, you curtsy to them, which can be a little bit awkward if you are in the kitchen area with the potato peeler in your hand,” she said. 

As the own chef to equally Prince Charles and Diana, she mastered all of the family’s preferred meals and treats. A person of the recipes in “Tea at the Palace” includes a meringue recipe that both of those Prince William and Harry beloved when they had been younger. 

“They cherished a piping bag entire of meringue,” claimed Robb. 

Robb was at Kensington Palace in 1997 when the younger princes experienced to cope with the unexpected demise of their mom. 

“There was incredibly little that any person absolutely in my place could seriously do. But to know that the foods was the best it could maybe be. I do imagine it has a position to play, and the simple fact that the kitchen was constantly a warm and happy and welcoming location,” she recalled.  

In her new book, Robb aims to bring the ease and comfort of cooking to everyone’s household. 

“I hope it’s just all portion of a more substantial knowledge, spending time with relatives and buddies and experiencing some treats. Some thing a bit specific, something that you never have each single working day,” Robb said.
